P5-Be able to edit materials to produce a final print media product

P5-Be able to edit materials to produce a final print media product
Meaning and purpose
this section demonstrates the different editing techniques I have used throughout this unit.

Fitness for Purpose
To keep consistency between my final images, I aimed to make similar edits and use the same techniques in all the images. This meant i could my present images in a way that would be fit for purpose also I included the Ralph lauren Logo on every image this was to make even clearer what brand the images were for.In order to create a web banner design for my image,  I needed to use a variety of different processes in order to achieve this. The Individual augmentations enabled me to manipulate the images and text in order to create a captivating and professional looking web banner design using Photoshop.

I then edited the original images to hopefully bringing in the audience into the website, this involved many different stages in order to produce the final images. The pictures  below shows an edit for one of my final images, this includes change tones, saturation, highlights and curves, as well as simple airbrushing.

Photo 1

Removing the background
For this step I  selected the tool Magic Eraser, then scanned the parts of the image  I wanted removed, giving me a logo with no background this allows the audience to see what the brand is which increased the quality of my final images.

I then deleted sections of the logo that were covering the clothing or branded apreal this is done in most high magasines however this means removing different parts of the logo which does mean people might not know what the brand is but because ralph lauren is such a high end brand people already know who they are even with a few letter missing Below shows the process of erasing the logo, using the Eraser tool

cropping
I did this to give the photo more impact this is done by cropping out some of the background this draws the viewer more into the major points of interest such as the models face plus the product itself .firstly i used the box tool this allowed me to decided what size fitted my purpose best because i didn't want to take away too much of my photo so once i had decided what size i wanted i selected the crop tool and sliced it down to the selected size I cropped out some of the blank background which might have made it boring to the viewer.

Photo:2

removing the background
I had to remove the background. For this step I simply selected the 'Magic Eraser Tool', then highlighted the areas in which I wanted the background removed, resulting in the logo with no background, which increased the quality of my final images.Furthermore, I erased parts of the logo that were placed in front of the initial image, a technique completed by most high magazines, showing the logo, however removing different parts of letters that fall in front of the model. Below shows the process of erasing the logo, using the Eraser tool.

saturation contrast
I changed the saturation contrast and saturation of the photo to by using the contrast and saturation tool i lowers the brightness and upped the contrast this gives the photo a more professional shoot. it also links with the winter theme because you usually associate winter with dark colours such as navy and greens.

Drop shadow
once i had rotated and moved it I added an drop shadow effect to give it and 3d effect and to make it "pop"as you see the difference between above and below.I then added a drop shadow effect i did this by clicking on the blending options of the layer section then ticking the drop shadow box i then angled the shadow to give this a 3d effect. I think adding the drop shadow to the picture allows for it stand out better and catch the eye of my target audience.

Text
Text is a vital part of  media products if they are to be good in selling or advertising I have taken exceptional care when choosing what text to use . The screenshot below shows the various layers in which I have used for text, enabling me to be precise in every block of text that appears on the final product. Using the text and character tools, I chose the size and font of the text that will be seen on the final product. In order to keep consistency I kept the same font, similar to the one used by ralphlauren, giving a more realistic and professional media product. It was crucial to use an appropriate font style, otherwise the product may be seen completely different and not be perceived exactly how I initially planned

I moved pieces of texts to catch the eye of audiences, for example ralphlauren' are key words in the advert, and therefore I kept the at a large font size, whereas the sub text was reduced to 72 pt drawing the reader in and causing them to look further at the ad . The text used in the picture is also crucial in order to sell and market the clothes. EG 'introducing' is a selling point for the new ralph lauren range and this will catch the eye of customers, convincing them that this product is worth looking at. The rest of the text must remain simplistic and offer true understanding and information to the customer, explaining what the product is called and what it is.

Removing Spots and Blemishes
This is a very simple process on photo shop. In fact installed within the programme is a 'spot remover tool'I am simply placing my cursor over the spot or blemish, and selecting it. This then replaces the area with another section from the images that matches the skin tone, removing the imperfection completely. This editing technique was essential in reflecting the model's true beauty, and resulted in the ability to publish an image with no marks, blemishes or spots that unfortunately may not be attractive to many readers. Allowing me to keep the fitness for purpose, which is achieving images of high standards that convey beauty, fashion and success.

Photo:3

transforming the logo
I took the logo and using the edit button i activated the drop down bar which then allowed me to activate the transform drop down bar which then showed the  scale tool I dragged the logo from the corner while holding the shift kept the shapes original shape and not distorting it.
not distorting the image allows the Ralph Lauren logo to stay the same through out the photo shoot and is recognisable through all the images which means that then target audience will know that all of these images belong to the same company.

Photo:4

I had to use the square highlighter tool found on left side tool bar and then I proceeded create a square using the tool i then used the bucket tool tool to fill it with a black colour this allows the white logo to stand out more which gives more emphasise on the logo.in addition to standard text, I also had to superimpose ralph Lauren logos onto the image. This helps the audience acknowledge the brand immediately, and therefore is essential to include within the final product. This process firstly involves importing the images into photoshop, this is done my selecting File, then Place:Secondly I had to select the image that was needed in the final image. After using the Magic Eraser Tool once again to remove the background, I had to use the Paint Bucket Tool to edit the image, changing it from white to black, otherwise the image would not be clear on the screen. I selected black for the foreground colour (shown below) to change the ralphlauren  logo to white.

Photo:5

Curves
this is an example of the before and after i used curves in my pictures. Curves affect contrast and tones so intern by editing the curve slightly can change an image drastically I alterd the curve for all of my images, to keep constancy consistent and create continuity in each image .

P4-production materials and techniques for an original media print media product

P4-production materials and techniques for an original media print media product
Meaning and purpose

This post has the numerous ways  I used equipment to create my final pictures. The variety of equipment I used during the shoot allowed me to capture a particular style of image this depended on which piece of equipment i used. The planning tool and resources included were used throughout the shoot to make sure I was keeping up to the schedule plus accomplishing all the desired shots. I selected the locations  to produce a diverse range of images with the same style, with intentions to advertise ralphlauren

Canon Carry Case

The protective case used for the Canon 7D DSLR was vital to keeping the camera safe also it allowed me to keep and store all the lenses required for the day of shooting plus any other pieces off camera equipment together. it was tough and waterproof which prevented any potential water damage to the equipment.

Canon 18-55mm Lens
this lens is an ideal general-purpose standard zoom. the four-stop Stabiliser allows for great performance in the low-light conditions of london.
  • Lightweight, compact design
  • Wide-angle to short telephoto range
  • Four-stop Image Stabilizer
  • Aspherical lens elements for control over distortion
  • 0.25m close-focusing distance
  • Super Spectra coatings
  • Circular aperture diaphragm
  • High-speed AF
18-55mm lens was used in many occasions throughout the day shoot. as it had the range of 18-55, It allowed me to frame each shot specifically and edit it if I could achieve a higher quality images. E.G the tilt shot below was altered to give a more human eye perspective looking from below and moving up, the 18-55mm lens allowed me to create this 'look'.

Booking Sheet

Using a pre production material as reference

The production schedule was a very helpful tool as i I used throughout the day.  I set out for London by train at 9:45, arriving to start filming at 11:00. . Keeping to schedule was vital and there was no disturbance but it did start to rain at around lunchtime  so we had lunch to let the rain stop . we started shooting the Advert in the various locations around London. then worked in accordance to the  original schedule.

The layout designs shown below were the initial ideas that I had for my photographic shoot. I used this style of shot for both my still image prints and advertising video. It was important to develop a few layout ideas in order to have a basis in which to start the photographic shoot. Although not all of these made the final cut, images did appear in the same style that I originally planned.

following safe work protocols

Risks

Cars on the road - one of the biggest risk involved with filming in London is huge amount of cars that pass through the streets. As the shoot is happening various locations in the city it involves a lot of traveling and additionally shooting next to roads. so there is always a risk of a crash . As this hazard was pretty much out of our hands, we tried to stay aware throughout the shoot and stayed out of danger . We stayed clear of busy streets and followed general traffic and crossing rules, e.g waiting for red light and a signal to cross.

Loss of Equipment / Stolen Equipment -I needed to be fully aware of the surroundings , keeping equipment close by . I also had to be careful that the equipment did not get damaged. Also during shooting it began to rain so we stored the camera in the Canon carry bag, then further more protected it by a larger plastic bag in order to keep it safe
during the day the gear was either being used or we kept it close by  in order to minimise the risk of  any of the equipment being stolen. I also did not leave any lenses on show when they were not needed.

Setting Up of Tripod / Equipment - When filming there is always a risk of tripping. so In order to reduce this risk I made sure all equipment is set up correctly each time plus we also avoided busy location so reducing the risk that someone might trip or collide with me or the camera gear, as well as the actress running.

The reduced risk of the following incidents contributed to the productive and efficient day of filming:

Trailing Cables - This will always be a risk when using technology.understanding the risk and reacting accordingly means no-one was  hurt during filming in locations where cables are lying down. The use of tape and cable protectors kept all wires organised and safe.

Electrical Fire/Shock - because most of the footage used for the final edit was shot external in the city. This means there was little chance of a electrical fire . although at points when plugs were used I made sure I used new extension leads to reduce the risk of causing fire

Broken Camera Equipment - The  largest risks throughout the  shoot. was broken equipment as I had a large number of pieces of equipment, A down side to this was I had to be extremely wary of all the equipment and know exactly where it was for the whole day, this made sure  there was very little risk of damage .

Following Production Processes

Camera Settings
I put the Canon 7D in manual when filming in London as because it had a diverse range of areas which means lighting was varied in every location thus meaning alterations needed to be made to the camera. The manual setting meant i could change settings which contributed to the footage, most commonly i changed the ISO which alters the cameras sensitivity to light and also i changed the aperture a lot helping me create the desired look in all the footage . In addition to this the camera captures footage in 1080p HD allowing me to create a  professional look this is important when creating a high standard advertisement

Lenses
The Cannon and Sigma lenses allowed me to capture high quality footage both offering different perspectives to my location allowing me to create a more captivating advert that keeps audience engaged throughout. capturing shots with a number of lenses means I could pick between what I felt looked more appropriate for the final advert, and what would entertain the audience the most. . For example, the 85mm fixed lens was perfect for shallow depth of field and focus pulls, creating a more atmospheric shot and drawing the audiences attention to a specific product or item on screen. An example of this can be seen below, a shot from my final edit showing olly walking through the door with a shallow depth of field, drawing in the audience to the detail of the jacket.

Photoshop
The primary tool I used to  edit my photos was CS5. Each final photo was created through this image editing software. , importing logos, creating text and altering raw images to present a final media product. The software enables you to present the initial idea as a true visualisation.

P3 Learners resolve identified legal or ethical issues for their planned audio-visual media product,
Meaning in this post i will be discussing the legal and ethical issues of producing advert i will also be displaying my documents used to crete a legal and ethically correct advert.
Purpose - the purpose of this posting is to identify any legal or ethical issues that my advert my incur this will hope fully mean that my advert will be a legal and ethic production

Intellectual property rights
intellectual property is a legal right held by a person to have exclusive rights to something without having to worry about competition for a specific period of time. These rights include copyrights, patents, trademarks, trade secrets. if breached you could be take to court via a lawsuit

Use of ralphlauren  Products

Ralph have a particular section on their website stating their policies and terms of use. If a corporate organisation were to use the images for profitable purposes, the following statements would apply

Filming permission
as we are a small crew using a handheld camera and the filming will not be causing any obstruction then there will be no restrictions to filming in the public areas of london..so this means No licence or aof official permission is needed.it also allows us to to Film the exterior of a building as this does not infringe our rights This means we do not need permission from theowner to film its exterior but you might need permission from the relevant authority or property owner based on where you have physically placed your camera in order to shoot.

Royalties
A royalty is a payment to an owner for the use of property, especially patents, copyrighted works, franchises or natural resources. A royalty payment is made to the legal owner of the property, patent, copyrighted work or franchise by those who wish to make use of it

Why you require a model release form.
A model release form is basically a contract for models. It lists  the ways the resulting images can or cannot be used.I will want to use the most non specific language possible about the media formats the image can be used, so you will have great latitude in selling the photo.

My model agreement
I grant to Calum McHale the photographer the unrestricted right to use and publish photographs of me or which i might be included for editorial trade advertising and any other purpose and in any manner or medium and release them from any claims and liability relating to the shoot

P2(c) solution of any identified hazard/risk in line with health/safety in line with health and safety procedures

P2(c) solution of any identified hazard/risk in line with health/safety in line with health and safety procedures
Meaning and purpose

The above enabled me to identify and understand more general risks of the film shoot, and furthermore come up with solutions that would help prevent these from occurring. Both the risk assessment and these general risks had to be considered throughout the day of filming, reducing the likeliness of accidents, damage to equipment or injury. Helping me operate with safe working practise.

Whilst filming in London, there was a vast range of hazards that could have possibly taken place throughout the day, therefore it was essential that I took great care at all times, completing every shot safely and efficiently, avoiding risks and hazards at all costs. In order to follow safe working practise, firstly I completed a Recce, in which I gathered information about local areas I was filming in, and familiarised myself with the surroundings. Additionally, I kept organised with the filming and kept out of the general public's way, and carefully placed equipment close to myself at all times, avoiding risk of loss or stolen items.

Hit by a car crossing the road
while crossing the road from the school to the path across the street there was a high risk that he would get hit by a car  this is because we filmed it in a high traffic area we tried to minimise the risk by filming during an off peak time in the day.

Lighting
during some of the indoor scenes we needed to set up lighting this was to allow us to create a professional product we wanted to use lighting during the running scene  this added a new danger which was the wires we had to tape these wires down to reduce the chance of the actor falling over while running down the hall.

Wet floor
Because we are filming during the winter we are very likely to get rained on and the floor is most likely to be wet so before we left i made sure everyone was wearing suitable foot wear with grippy soles and that the tripod has grippy bottoms.

leaving equipment unsupervised
I kept all the equipment locked in the bag when is wasn't being used and I counted all equipment before we left and when we came back and someone was watching it at all-times

RISK ASSESSMENT - http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg360.pdf

What is risk assessment?
Risk assessment is a careful examination of what could cause harm to people, so the production company/producer can weigh up whether adequate preventive or control measures have been taken or more should be done to prevent harm and to ensure that minimum legal standards are met.

You need to determine whether there are any significant hazards involved with the production activity and whether sufficient precautions have been taken to reduce the risk.
A hazard is something that can cause harm, eg chemicals, electricity, noise, work at height, loose cables. A risk is the chance that somebody will be harmed by the hazard, usually classified as high, medium or low.

Who should do risk assessment?
A competent person, who has knowledge, experience and understanding of the task or activity under assessment, should carry out the risk assessment.
If special technical knowledge is required, more than one person may be required, including someone who has the necessary competence in the particular activity, eg stunts, special effects, flying, animals, set design.
The producer is responsible for ensuring that risk assessments are completed for their productions. In practice, they may delegate risk assessment to other people, such as production managers, designers, heads of departments, the location manager or the unit manager.

In this case, the producer must ensure that:
● the person delegated is competent to perform the assessment, if
necessary, by providing training in risk assessment procedures or
other aspects of health and safety;
● the assessment is carried out;
● necessary controls are implemented effectively throughout the
production;
● the assessment is reviewed where changes or new circumstances have made the original assessment no longer valid.
For small-scale productions in low-risk situations, eg those involving a single camera or small crews, it is likely that the assessment can be carried out by the crew on the ground. The production company/producer must ensure that crew working on this style of production have the necessary
competence to perform risk assessment and implement effective controls.
In the case of ‘non-production’ activities, the responsibility for assessment rests with the departmental manager. Again, they are likely to delegate the assessment to others but will still retain the responsibility for ensuring that those to whom they delegate are competent to perform the assessment, that the assessment is carried out and the necessary controls are implemented
effectively and reviewed.

How do I carry out a risk assessment?
There are five simple steps in risk assessment:

Step 1 Look for hazards

Don’t get bogged down with trivial hazards; concentrate on those posing a
significant risk of injury or harm.

Step 2 Decide who might be harmed and how

Think about who may be affected and those who are particularly at risk.

Step 3 Evaluate the risk
Consider the chance and severity of harm that each hazard may cause, taking existing control measures into account.
Judge whether an actual risk (high, medium or low) is likely from the identified hazard. Determine the necessary control measures using the following hierarchy of approach:
● avoid the risk completely; but if this is not possible
●reduce the risk to acceptable levels;
● provide training and instruction, and personal protective equipment if the risks cannot be controlled in any other way;
● reduce risk at source by developing safe systems of working, giving
collective measures priority.

Step 4 Record the significant findings
The significant findings of the risk assessment should be recorded and communicated to those people who may be affected. In practice, this means ensuring that the production team and any contractors are informed of the significant hazards, the likely risks and the required control measures. Keep
a record for future reference, it will help to demonstrate compliance with legal duties. The legal requirement to record findings applies if five or more people are employed but smaller companies are recommended to record details in order to show that they have carried out risk assessment.

Step 5 Review and revise your risk assessment
New hazards can be introduced if there is any significant change in the
activity, equipment, substances or procedures. Risk assessments should be
revised following any significant change or when they become out of date. If
there have been no changes, the assessment should be reviewed at least once
every three years to ensure that the precautions are still working effectively.

P2(b)potential hazards/risk

P2(b)potential hazards/risk
Meaning and purpose

The aim of a risk assessment is to identify  hazards that might occur during filming. identifying the risks and hazards makes it easier to prevent them from happening by doing this you can work out the necessary steps to reduce and stops them from happengin.by not having one i could have increased the risk of a hazards occurring that might have been prevented. Not only can a risk assessment protect myself from harm or facing risks, it also reduces or prevents the damage of equipment used By having simple precautions noted below, I can reduce my risk of facing problems and facing hazards.

wet floor this would be a pretty low risk as everyone was wearing suitable shoes and it hadn't rained a huge amount

the general public was a high risk on stauraday because londond was very busy

disrupting the streets was a very low risks i did film on many streets and when i did i tried to not take up all of the pavement
the risk of cars was moderate because there were multiple cars on the road and it was very dark i id wear high visibility jackets to reduce the risk

P2(a) outcome of reece(s)

P2(a) outcome of reece(s)
meaning and purpose
Recce - Recce - filming Recce is a phrase used in the army which has been taken by the media society in the UK it comes from the word reconnaissance. Its a term for when you visit a location before the actual shoot to work out if its suitable for the shoot such as access to necessary facilities and assessment of any potential lighting or sound issues.

I aim for a variety of shots so need shoot in various locations to create different styles and types of images. so i decide to complete both a studio shoot and London city shoot where I take stills of the model to create natural looking shots plus studio setting shots. most of the  shots will be taken within london however i  will have a few studio shots

The city shots are taken in London, I have indicated all the places I will be shooting in  for my advertisement below. I have visited every location before the day of the shoot and can confirm they are all a safe area but there will always be a risk as its a busy city, I will take the appropriate precautions to avoid problems or issues.
